The 5th thematic session of the 3rd International Workshop of the Amazon Dams International Research Network, Panel 5: “Key knowledge gaps for decision-making”, is approaching.  It will be held on October 2, 2020 2:00 – 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (USA). 

The panelists will be:

Amarilis Gallardo, an associate professor in the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo and of the Graduate Program in Smart and Sustainable Cities at Nine of July University (UNINOVE). His research experience is related to environmental impact assessment instruments at the project and planning level.  More recently he has dedicated himself to integrating the perspective of ecosystem services in planning.

Elizabeth Anderson, a freshwater conservation scientist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University. Her research explores the ecology, natural history, and social connections to tropical rivers.

Paul Van Damme has a Ph.D. in biology from the Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium. He is director of the non-governmental organization FAUNAGUA in Cochabamba and honorary professor of the San Simón University of Cochabamba, Bolivia. His main research interest is the management of hydrobiological resources, impact assessments, and fish and aquatic mammal ecology.

The objective of the panel is to discuss: What information, indicators, and procedures are needed to improve existing policies and practices?
