As part of the Amazon Dams Network and the Governance and Infrastructure in the Amazon project, the University of Florida in partnership Universidad Amazónica de Pando organized a 3-day workshop in Cobija, Bolivia. This workshop brought together participants from Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and the US to dialogue about infrastructure development in the region, and discuss opportunities to work together to promote collaborative research and learning. The 3-day workshop was preceded by a capacity-building course on interdisciplinary research and practice for sustainability taught by Simone Athayde and Marliz Arteaga. Following the workshop, Eben Broadbent and Andrea Chavez taught a one-day hands-on course regarding the use of drones to monitor ecological change. To learn more about the workshop, take a look at the event’s agenda.
In addition to activities during the workshop, students from Universidad Amazónica de Pando presented posters about their studies in the region. The posters were judged by an international team of experts. José Alberto Noco Mopi was selected as the winner of the poster competition for his work entitled “Population Density and Structure of the Londra (Pteronura brasilienseis) in the Creeks of Tulapa and Bay in the Reserva Nacional de Vida Silvestre Amazónica Manuripi”.
