Tropical Conservation & Development Program
UF Center for Latin American Studies
Next Wednesday (Feb 1) from 1–3 PM in Reitz G-330, Dr. David Blackburn is hosting Dr. Rebecca Tarvin (Integrative Biology; UC-Berkeley) and doctoral student Valeria Ramírez Castañeda (in Becca’s lab a Berkeley) for an event titled “The Fieldwork That We Envision: A Future of Equitable Field Biology and Reciprocity with Local Communities”. There will be a presentation followed by some short break-out groups and discussions. This is the first of several events this semester that are organized by the UF International Center and focused on best practices in collaborative, international science (e.g., against “helicopter” or “parachute” science). It promises to be an insightful event, and all are welcome to attend and participate.
This presentation relates directly to a paper that they Valeria and Becca led that was recently published in PNAS (https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2122667119).
