Dr. Paula Ungar, Senior Environmental Social Scientist Keller Science Action Center, The Field Museum As a biologist, Paula has explored the intersection of different forms of knowledge and biodiversity conservation. With experience in National Natural Parks of Colombia and NGOs, she focused on the Colombian Amazon region. Her Ph.D. thesis critically reflects on her experience working with protected areas, analyzing scientific, Indigenous, and practitioners’ roles. From 2012 to 2021, she led interdisciplinary research at the Humboldt Institute working on policy-oriented research about conservation and environmental conflict transformation. A fellow at the Rachel Carson Center from 2016-2017, she contributed to the Colombia National Ecosystem Assessment and Global IPBES Values Evaluation. Since 2022, Paula has been a Senior Environmental Social Scientist in the Andes Amazon Program of the Keller Science Action Center of the Field Museum in Chicago.
