Congratulations to Marliz Arteaga and Meshach Pierre for receiving International Student Achievement Awards at 27thAnnual ISA Awards Ceremony in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom on November 16th.
Marliz, a PhD candidate in Interdisciplinary Ecology in the School of Natural Resources and Environment, was awarded the Alec Courtelis Award. Marliz will complete her PhD degree in Spring 2022 under advisement of Dr. Stephen Perz. Marliz has worked on environmental governance surrounding conservation and development issues in Bolivia and has supported considerable capacity building efforts in the region.
Meshach Pierre, a MS student from Guyana in the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law, received the Post-graduate International Student Award. Meshach is completing the first year of his MS under advisement from Drs. Jessica Kahler and Matt Hallett. Meshach’s current research is examining the human dimensions of human-jaguar conflict in the Rupununi, Guyana using the interdisciplinary conservation criminology framework, a toolkit that draws from natural resources management, risk science, and criminology.
The ISA awards recognize students who distinguish themselves not only by their exemplary academic achievements, but also by a wide range of accomplishments and contributions to UF and the community.
Marliz and Meshach are valued members and leaders within the TCD community. We are very proud of their accomplishments both at UF and in the field.
